[debian-non-standard] Current status of 43xx wifi on Asus Premium

Hello.

I'm trying to compile[1] OpenWRT for several days (trunk) and get wifi
43xx working on kernel 2.6.25.20. It still seems to be unstable giving
kernel oops, dumping mysterious errors to logs or just simply hangs.

Before I start to ask questions about 43xx problems I would like to
know: what is current status of 43xx (4318 to be specific) wifi on Asus
wl500g-Premium with 2.6.x? Is it working fine or still under
development? And, does anybody have working kernel that I can simply
test on my board just in case I have broken hardware?

I need at least access-point mode of my wifi card. Is this functionality
working now or should I change card to something else (I do have spare
Atheros 5211 which I already check but without luck (another problem to
discuss in case 43xx does not work) ).

This page:

http://wpkg.org/Running_Debian_on_ASUS_WL-500G_deluxe:Downloads

seems to be a bit old, openwrt works with more recent kernel now than
2.6.19.2. Any reason I should not try new releases?

[1] I need some kernel modules like crypto loop and specific USB
hardware so I need to compile it myself.
