I tried it on clean installed Ubuntu 12.04 and succeeded.

You can see the output of each daemon by running "screen -x stack".  I
think you can find some errors.

If it doesn't help, run unstack.sh and try stack.sh again (perhaps you
should remove all directories in /opt/stack).  If it still doesn't
work, you may need to test it on clean installed Ubuntu.
