In Debian, packages can get unpacked in any order, yes. However, the final phase of package installation (configuration) cannot occur until all packages it depends on have been configured first. This is because the configuration script may require running parts of the packages it depends on. It is also perhaps worth noting that there is no concept of a priority mechanism with Debian packages. Brian May |
