Hi folks,

 Well it looks like my comments disappeared into the ether when I attached that
file.

 Suffice it to say,

 I haven't yet found the combination of scenarios that led up to me reporting
this "bug" (I suspect it's mostly stuff I did but I don't want to run the risk
of it being a real undiscovered bug in WPKG).

 In order to run through the different variations and narrow it down I knocked
up this script to "emulate" the behaviour of installers in a general way.

 It's not big,it's not clever and it's not thoroughly debugged but it might be
useful to someone wanting to test out ideas.
