I think you're talking about the user notification feature. It can be enabled in
config.xml. However there is a length limit in msg.exe (used on Win Vista/7 to
send user notifications). The messages can be defined in config.xml as well -
just make sure it's not too long (256 chars?) - there is a note within
config.xml which explains the limitations.

One might also use the pre- and post- execution feature of WPKG client to run
customized WPKG start/stop messages. The advantage of using the built-in
functionality of WPKG is that it will only show if WPKG has some work to do. If
there is nothing to be done WPKG will not display any message.
