Hi Marco,
  It is a system problem as a McAfee patch automatically pushed out by the McAfee server also failed with a 1603 error.  I don't want to have to reinstall this PC ;-(

I'll have to see what I can google.

Check your AV solution's log. Some AV software ''autoprotection'' or ''heuristic'' function block WPKG or some installers...
