Yes, with no success initially, but today I'm making real progress!!!

Yesterday, I tried with a Samsung SV4084H (a 40 GB disk). The result (or
lack of it, I should say) was the same. Dmesg jumps from
scsi2 : sata_via
to
NFTL driver: nftlcore.c $Revision: 1.98 $, nftlmount.c $Revision: 1.41 $

Today I tried with no drive attached:
scsi2 : sata_via
ATA: abnormal status 0x8 on port 0x1447
NFTL driver: nftlcore.c $Revision: 1.98 $, nftlmount.c $Revision: 1.41 $

The 40GB samsung came configured for cable select. Let's try with the
samsung forcing to master:

ATA: abnormal status 0x80 on port 0x1447

And now, what happens if I try slave?
Woooow!!!

scsi2 : sata_via
ATA: abnormal status 0x7F on port 0x1447
ATA: abnormal status 0x7F on port 0x1447
ata3.01: ATA-6, max UDMA/100, 79730784 sectors: LBA

scsi 2:0:1:0: Direct-Access ATA SAMSUNG SV4084H PM10 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
SCSI device sda: 79730784 512-byte hdwr sectors (40822 MB)
sda: Write Protect is off
sda: Mode Sense: 00 3a 00 00
SCSI device sda: write cache: enabled, read cache: enabled, doesn't
support DPO
or FUA

Original drive to slave should fo the trick? Bad news, it doesn't
ATA: abnormal status 0x80 on port 0x1447

I'll keep on trying and share my findings

Juan
