OpenWRT still has 2.6.25.x (and it works with WL-500gP).

Config is nothing complicated, just enable ext3, USB support, SCSI etc., 
proper cmdline and it should boot Debian.

Probably "make oldconfig" from a 2.6.19.x would produce you a working 
kernel.
