[sheepdog] [PATCH stable-0.8] update for the store format update mechanism

This update contains an important bugfix for the store format update
mechanism. It contains manual modification for resolving conflicts. If
a maintainer agrees or nobody disagrees in 2 days, it will be pushed
to stable-0.8.
