Hi Yuan,
	Thanks for tracking down the bug report for automake.  Your patch would
work for the 'make deb' case, but then we're still left with 'make distclean' being
broken.

Over the weekend, I played around with some changes, and came up with a patch that
seems to work in all cases (as long as you use GNU make), and doesn't break
dependencies.  I'll send that up as a reply to this mail.
