it doesn't work; it returns the following error

Andrea,
this registry key is only available on Winodws NT, which includes NT4, 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, 2008 and Win7.

I think the WPKG client is not meant for Window 9x/ME, since this branch is dead for along time now, even if it is still used in some environments.
