You are probably using an older version of firefox. The command line option has been removed in more recent versions.

Hello,

I do not know about your particular extension, but we are installing several Firefox/Thunderbird extensions quite well with

firefox.exe -install-global-extension <extension.xpi>

Perhaps you can post more details why you need to go such a rather complicated way.
