In theory, yes, but in practice, it failed for me, it always wanted to 
start some mipsel binary on x86.

I even posted some questions on some Debian list, but suggestions did 
not help very much; it was long time ago, maybe current debootstrap 
behaves netter, I am not sure.

So you can either:
- try if current (unstable) debootstrap works better on mixed 
architectures than a couple of years ago
- start your own mipsel in qemu (or on your asus), do debootstrap there
- download ready images :) - i.e., from my site
