I see another advantage of separating the download and install phase.
Laptops with VPN client apps are not connected at boot time, so download always
fails before the user logs in to the VPN connection.
If download would take place in the background, while the user is doing his
normal work, WPKG can install the applications at the next reboot, without the
need for a network connection. This solves the problem of locked files, if
installation is started at boot and continues while the user logs in and starts
working.
Which reminds me, IIRC this is the way OCSInventory deployment works. Maybe
WPKG can borrow the good parts, and leave the horrible setup sequence of
OCSInventory deployment alone?
