This is exactly what we do. We have a "base" profile that everyone gets
and every other profile depends on (Firefox, Thunderbird, Flash player,
Adobe Reader, etc...), then some departmental profiles (programmers need
an editor, QA needs different web browsers, etc...).
We are going towards having a profile for every computer so users can
choose between software choices we offer (notepad++ vs. jedit for instance).
