Haven't had the chance yet to test the pre-execution solution but... wouldn't
wpkg wipe the content of the logfile _after_ it executed the pre-execution
commands and hence kill the network info too?

What i tried was playing with
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa394217(VS.85).aspx a little. But
thanks to my lack of JS-fu i was only able to obtain parts of the info i
wanted. Maybe someone else can figure out more.
