Have you tried just replacing lenny with squeeze in 
/etc/apt/sources.list, and running apt-get dist-upgrade?

It should work fine I think (and yes, 2.6.30 kernel is not too distant).

Probably building a new kernel from OpenWRT upstream would be a good 
exercise, too, if anyone has too much time :)
