Yes, the reason is there. It's called "history" ;-)
No, forget about that, I usually would really blame somebody trying to justify
a fact by historical reasons.

But I am working on an english Windows currently and just verified the labels
there:
- Software removal is called "Remove"
  (at least the button within control panel => Add or Remove Programs)
- About "install" you did not complain.
- For "upgrade" you're right. 'msiexec /?' displays parameters /update for
software Update (not "upgrade")

some phrases about update and upgrade but there is only one location where I
remember that there is an absolutely clear difference. Debian Linux uses
'apt-get update' to "update" the local package database (without actually
installing anything) and 'apt-get upgrade' will do the actual software
"upgrade/installation".

Anyway I think thats out of the scope currently... Let's get that beast
released first ;-)
