I'd really like to sort out the internal vs external protocol split
first as that'll allow for better upgrade processes.  I also have
a change to the cluster protocol in the works that I'd like to get
some comments on.  Can we get at least another week?

Sounds fine.  Maybe we can aim for a few minor release that are entirely
compatible for the time?
