The idea is good.
But what if someone wants to distinguish between Windows 2000 and Windows XP?

Or between XP SP1 and XP SP2? Someone may have a test environment, and test
applications on SP2, before migrating from SP1.

Ideally, a test for a language version would be great, too.

I'll try to look up where these values are (if someone knows, share this
knowledge please).

Relying merely on %OS% is too little IMHO.
